IT WAS interesting to see that you published the so-called league table of primary school results (for children who took tests last May).

Primary schools are to be congratulated on the significantly improved results.

However, on behalf of colleagues I would urge that people treat the tables with extreme caution.

It would be grossly unfair to pillory schools who are at the bottom of the table. These tables remain a snapshot which does not measure other factors and, therefore, do not tell the whole story.

This can only be obtained when parents actually visit the school of their choice.

It remains a basic fact that the Level Four benchmark tells us nothing about the pupils for whom Level Three is a tremendous achievement, nor does it give appropriate credit to those who achieve Level Five or even Six.
