Warrington RUFC 21

IF Warrington win their five remaining games they cannot be caught in the race for the title.

With Wirral beating Southport at the weekend it would appear that it is a two-horse race.

One problem clubs face when they are top of a table is that their opposition tend to raise their game.

Saturday was no exception and combined with the fact that Warrington turned in their poorest display of the season so far it meant that Warrington had to fight all the way for their win.

Warrington's cause was not helped when three forwards, Ian McLarney, Steve Mutton and John Callander were forced to withdraw.

Their replacements Stewart Coleman and Turner, together with Andy Walker's switch from the backline, gave their all and it was Walker who opened Warrington's account, claiming the touch down after cleanly won line-out ball was driven over the line.

Andy James added the conversion and a few moments later a penalty goal as Warrington swept into a 10-3 lead.

A lapse of concentration at a scrum then saw Park's winger sneak over.

By the break though Warrington had recovered their advantage. Scrum half and captain Gez Louden scored an inspirational try as he sold a dummy and outpaced the defence in a 30 yards dash.

Warrington added two James penalties during the second half.

THE game maked a personal triumph for giant prop forward Andy Leigh, who capped an outstanding game with two tries. Chedd and Jones added further tries and Senogles' steady boot added two conversions and a penalty.

TOO many indiscretions and as a result Warrington could not quite match their opposition.

Tries by Fairclough and Price with a conversion and penalty from McDermott were Warrington's only reward.

THE kicking of Tamati was a vital ingredient in this Warrington win. Chamberlain and Buckley scored the tries while Robinson put in an outstanding performance.
