SHOCK results arrived in abundance in the Warrington and District Soccer League programme last Saturday.

In the Premier Division, leaders Whiston Cross were held to a 1-1 draw at home against lowly Golborne Sports while second place Eagle Sports had to struggle for a 1-0 win at St. Albans before they could reduce the gap.

In Division One, bottom place Monk Sports travelled to overnight leaders Grappenhall Sports and pulled off a great 2-1 victory.

That enabled Winwick Utd to regain pole position as they won 6-4 against Moore Utd. Carl Greenwood snatched a hat-trick, Darren Mather hit a brace and Ian Pickett scored the last.

Moore's goals came courtesy of a Scott Taylor hat-trick and his brother Kris.

Riverplate also cashed in to go second after a 3-2 win at Runcorn Albion, with a brace for Ian Whitfield and one for Dave Houghton.

Fearnhead remain on top in Division Two thanks to a 2-1 win over Halfway, James Forshaw and Justin Lawson both finding the net.

Congratulations to Lymm Dynamoes who gained their first point of the season from a 3-3 draw against Lockers.

Irlam Catholic Club extend their lead to six points in Division Three. A hat-trick from Paul Withers and one apiece from Kevin McSharry and Lee Barclay gave them a 5-2 win over Houghton Arms whose consolation efforts came from Seva Doughty and Geoff Tarbuck.

Dallam pulled off a coupon buster by winning 2-1 at Croft, Kenny Leah and Lee McDermott being the goal heroes.

Top pot shots of the day were Safeways. They smashed 10 without reply against St. Benedicts. Doubles here for Dave Holden and Lee Kinsey plus one each for Mike Bradshaw, Steve Orford, Roy Jones, Stephen Burton, Paul Williamson and Neil Gargan.

Tommy's Clock Face launched a gutsy fightback when they went a goal behind to Farnworth. A treble here for James Ireland and one from Frank McDonald settled the issue.

There were some important games played in the Guardian Cup. In a third round tie, Halton Borough overcame Greenall Whitley 3-1. Strikes here for John Martin, Kevin Martin and Darren Jones.

Crosfields and Division One newcomers Blackbrook marched into the semi-finals. Crosfields found themselves 2-0 up against Padgate St. Oswalds with goals from Andy Astley and Steve Saunders.

The "Ossies" rallied and struck back through Mark Dawson and Scott Heesom. However they were rocked by a 25 yarder from Neil Benton which gave Crosfields the tie 3-2.

In the other quarter-final, Blackbrook won by the only goal of the game at Rainhill Town.

In the Reserve Sections, Crosfields completed the double over Padgate as their reserves won 2-0 thanks to strikes from Dave Hoyland and John Jones.

Halton Borough netted eight without reply at Eagle. Michael Higginson led the way with three, Lee Keenan grabbed two and there were one each from Paul Withers, Peter Withers and Paul Butler.

Halton third came away with a 4-2 win at Greenall. Peter Jones hit a brace and brother Paul and David Barnes scored one each.

The veteran Mike McEvoy of Fearnhead proved his vintage as he scored all his side's three goals in their 3-2 success at Golborne third.

Rod Buchanan, 2, Chris Wilson and debut boy Lee Duane were the Moore marksmen in their 4-1 win against Moorfield third.

Haydock and Vulcan Newton's top of Reserve Section two clash ended 1-1.
