WARRINGTON Anglers' Association's river prospects have improved slightly with the River Dane, although carrying extra water, producing chub to 3lbs and good numbers of smaller fish.

According to members there have been odd bream showing and I understand that above our stretch several carp have turned up in catches!

Members please note that normal times of fishing, an hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset apply on this fishery.

With the Dee in flood the River Alyn is worth a visit. Members are reporting good catches of small grayling, dace and chub. Stick float and maggot is the popular method.

There are plenty of bites to be had on the River Mersey, but the problem is hitting them. Feeder fished maggot or caster will result in lightening bites from the increasing dace shoals that recently showed in numbers. The angler who cracks the method will definitely bag up. Generally, small roach, dace and gudgeon have been caught but there have been none of the larger roach.

Astle Pool is slow with only a few small pike reported and no carp activity whatsoever. James Black fished the pole and pinkie and caught about 35 of the illusive roach and a few perch, but nothing large.

The Bridgewater Canal is gin clear and fishing is generally hard but as usual in our matches someone drops on the fish. Winning match weights are currently up

to 9lbs and organiser Steve Conroy reports he has weighed in perch to 2lbs 8ozs.

The Trent and Mersey Canal is proving to be even more difficult with only small roach, gudgeon and the occasional large perch taken on lobworm.

HQ Parker Street is open tonight, Friday, 7pm to 9.30pm for new members or a chat. I can be contacted on 01928 716238 with your queries or catch reports.
