CHRISTINE and Geoffrey Sutton are leading their neighbours in a revolt against a three-story high monster.

Residents in a quiet Cinnamon Brow cul-de-sac are still reeling from the day BT installed a huge telegraph pole in front of their homes.

The towering post dwarfs the bungalows in Bromley Close and dominates the skyline. Christine, who has lived there for nine years, said: "It's ugly, hideous and unslightly, and that's being polite. I absolutely hate it.

"Everybody in the close is in the same frame of mind about it. When they came to put it in, I panicked and thought, they can't leave that there.

"It's taller and wider than the average telegraph pole, when you come into the cul-de-sac, it knocks your eye out."

Neighbours are baffled as to how BT could install the pole without planning permission or consultation.

They have lodged their objections with the company and hope good sense will prevail.

Christine added: "This is a cul de sac, with low level bungalows. It doesn't fit in at all. Surely they can find a better place for it. In new housing estates they put the lines underground. I think this is a cheap option."

A BT spokesman said the company was investigating the matter: "As a utility we do have certain rights to put poles on footpaths and highways. But we do carefully consider where we put poles and we take objections into account."
