Metrovic u7s 25

THE Widnes u7s travelled to a potentially tricky trial against Metrovic in Sale, who were out to avenge their narrow defeat at Widnes early in the season.

It is a measure of the Widnes u7s progress that they ran out easy winners with 10 tries in reply to Metrovic's five. Widnes try scorers were Paul McLindon (6), Nick Oatley (2), Sean Wood, and Anthony Cooke.

The Wids Kids put their mark on this match right from the start with Paul McLindon picking up a loose ball and slipping it to Joe Webb who made good progress with a mesmerising run before being tackled just short of the line.

Joe quickly sent the ball out to Nick Oatley who slipped past a tackle for a try in the corner. Move of the match was between Cooke and McLindon. Cooke on a run was about to be tackled.

He turned and offered the ball on the overlap to McLindon who took it on the run, using his electrifying pace to outstrip the defenders to score.

Cooke had an excellent game in defence, tigerish in the tackle and winning a number of loose balls with the speed of his challenges.

Young Robert Griffiths also made some good tackles and was unlucky not to score having had a try disallowed.
