... and delightful

Widnes RUFC Women 20

Rhyl 7

RHYL used all their power and experience to make things very uncomfortable for the Widnes Women for three-quarters of the game.

But the keenness and determination of the home side was something the visitors couldn't master.

The big Rhyl forwards controlled matters early and their number eight peeled away from a maul to score by the posts with the conversion giving them a seven point lead.

As Widnes continued to play second-fiddle, the game took a sudden twist as ace try scorer, Kelly Dalton, conjured up one of her specials as she raced 40 yards to ground by the corner-flag.

It was more of the same in the second-half as Widnes struggled to contain the continuous powerful Rhyl forward drives but the visitors just couldn't find any way through the magnificent Widnes' defence.

Going into the final quarter, Widnes changed their tactics as they started to kick and chase and Dalton showed them the way as she chipped ahead then regathered to speed 60 yards for a corner-flag try.

The score boosted Widnes and captain and hooker, Joanne Olson, who had a marvellous game, who took an important strike against the head for the ball to move swiftly along the backs with Carrie-Anne Smith finishing the magnificent piece of play off by shooting 30 yards into the corner.

Widnes were now completely in control of matters and an attempted clearance kick was swooped on by Mandy Edge who evaded three despairing tackles to score wide out to give Widnes a super victory.
