Mond Rangers 3

Bromborough Pool 0

MOND were made to battle for the full 90 minutes to overcome a lively Bromborough Pool outfit at Sandy Lane.

The bumpy pitch was causing problems to both teams, resulting in some scrappy play.

The home side took the lead in the 25th minute, a throw in on the right was swept across goal by Pitt for Karl Thomas to volley home.

The second-half saw the best move of the game came when Littler fed Crane who moved the ball onto John Williams, his pass allowed Thomas to cross to the far post where Pitt just missed making contact, with the goal at his mercy.

Mond deservedly increased their lead in the 70th minute, a cross by Dave Williams being headed back across goal by Thomas, into the top corner of the net. However, they needed the security of the second goal as the visitors looked very dangerous on the break.

When Hide raced down the left, his pass found Thomas who crossed to Dwyer the keeper again producing a good save at the foot of his post.

The same three players combined well in the 78th minute, Thomas crossing, Hide controlling the ball and laying it back for Paul Dwyer to sweep home in one move.

Mom, Karl Thomas.

Mond Rangers Bonanza was won by, P Verey, No131 who receives £100.

Next Saturday Mond Rangers are at home to Moore United in the Runcorn Senior Cup quarter-final, kick-off 2pm. The game has been sponsored by Jetstream Cleaning Company, Mersey Road. Mond Rangers Reserves are also at home, visitors are Cestrian Alex, referee is Mr M Ellison, kick-off 2pm.

THE first-half was all Mond with forwards Harkin and Bernie Smith causing all sorts of problems for the home keeper but they didn't open the scoring until the second-half through Harkin. A good cross from the left by Peter McPartland found Harkin at the near post who slid the ball cleanly into the corner of the goal away from the keeper.

Mond went 2-0 up, again through Harkin. It was McPartland again who supplied the ammunition. After a good shot from the left, the ball passed the keeper but only to hit the post and bounce straight into Harkin's path who coolly put the ball into the back of the Upton goal.

Only minutes later a cross from the right saw Harkin turn the Upton defence and put a lively shot into the bottom right-hand corner to snatch a well deserved hat-trick with only minutes to go.

Mond scored their fourth goal when captain Bernie Smith ran onto a ball that looked to be heading straight to the Upton defender and was snatched by B Smith who put the ball swiftly past the startled keeper.

Mond went a little quiet in the dying seconds and that let in Upton for a consolation goal. Mom, Gary Harkin.

Mond Youth 3

Warrington Town 3

A DISAPPOINTING performance from the home side who led 2-1 at half-time following goals from Flaherty and a Thompson chip from 25 yards.

Slack defending allowed the visitors to pull a goal back on half-time.

In the second-half Warrington went 3-2 up and looked to have secured the points until a free-kick by Flaherty dipped over the keeper in injury time.

Manager Ray Pullen was fuming over the teams lack of application in recent matches. Mond Youth play Ashville Youth in the Cheshire Youth Cup, semi-final at Ashville on Sunday, February 22. Next Sunday they visit Silver Birch in a Warrington Youth League fixture
