FUN runners in Winsford and Middlewich are being invited to put on their trainers and take part in an annual fund-raising event.

The popular Delamere Fun Run takes place on Saturday, March 7, and the organisers are hoping to beat last year's record entry of almost 500 runners.

Last year's race produced record times in the women's five-mile race (32.02 mins) and the men's 10-mile run (54.06 mins).

Entry is free for the race, which is organised by Cheshire County Council, South Cheshire Health and Forest Enterprises.

No application forms are required and participants can choose running distances of five or 10 miles, mainly on paths and tracks in the woods and across open countryside.

The run will start at 2pm from the Forestry Commission centre at Linmere, near Delamere Station.

Runners and joggers are welcome to take part, with entries on the line only.

As the course includes a short length of minor road, runners should wear light, bright coloured kit if possible.

The race's official charity this year will be the Cheshire Sports Trust, which supports young and disabled people in sport.

Any runners wishing to raise money for this through sponsorship in the fun run can obtain forms from the county council's sports and recreation service at Moss Farm Cottages, Moss Lane, Northwich, or telephone 871812.
