The club has gone from strength to strength since its humble beginnings in 1977.

And on Friday, March 13, the group comes of age - and they're planning a suitably slap-up gathering to mark the day.

Sarah Sherwood, who has been involved with the club since it started, is hoping to call together old boys and girls from the club's past, for a birthday party at the Harlequin Theatre.

"We're trying to invite back anyone who has ever had anything to do with the Folk Club," said Sarah.

"We have ferried and bussed in hundreds of people over the years - sometimes from very far afield.

"So there's loads of people who should be celebrating with us.

"We want to get hold of the entertainers and the visitors alike."

The club was set up by Northwich arts group DAN - just a year after DAN itself was established.

"Oh, yes - the club was one of our first and finest accomplishments," said DAN's Nick Hughes.

"They've really done themselves proud over the years.

"As for DAN - well, we're not really very big on birthdays!"
