DABBERS manager Clive Jackson has nothing but praise for a couple of late additions to his team who saved the day last week.

Progress to the semi finals of the league cup looked almost assured last Tuesday evening when disaster struck in the form of floodlights failure.

With Nantwich Town 2-1 up against high flying Burscoe, an abandoned match could have spelt disaster.

But thanks to a speedy response from Manweb, whose technicians took just 28 minutes to arrive, the game went on and the Dabbers were victorious.

"It was the longest 28 minutes of my life," said Clive, who discounted the involvement of Middle Eastern betting syndicates in the blackout.

"I've got nothing but praise for the lads from Manweb, the speed they arrived on the scene was phenomenal."

Burscoe, who have only lost four times so far this season, opened the scoring after Simon Pay missed a back pass and saw the ball trickle over the line for an own goal.

But this gave the team some impetus, and they equalised in the first minute of extra time, Paul Garvey breaking down the right to cross to Ray Notice.

Just one minute later, Dougie Dawson scored what proved to be the winning goal.

Nantwich now face a double header against Kidsgrove, with Clive hoping for a big crowd for the Friday night games.
