FRIDGES across the borough can have a free check to see whether they are operating properly as part of a food safety campaign.
Council officers will be on hand to visit people in their own homes to advise them on food safety, check fridge temperatures and leave each home with a free fridge thermometer.
They will also check microwaves for any leakage if asked.
Environmental Services Chairman, Bob Jones, said: "In view of the recent increase in national food safety scares we believe it is vital to keep our residents educated and informed about food safety.
"Fridge temperature and the location of different foods within a fridge are vital if safety is to be maintained."
It is hoped that the service will be offered by the council in June, to tie in with a national food safety campaign.
