THE Reading Passport scheme got off to a forceful start on Monday - quite literally.

With the help of co-ordinator John East, youngsters produced a front page for the 'Penketh County Primary Force Finders' newspaper. John's newspaper day was tailored to support the school's physics projects looking at forces and discoveries.

The Reading Passport pilot project is a partnership between 16 primary schools, North and Mid Cheshire TEC Education Business Partnership and the WARRINGTON GUARDIAN. The youngsters are working through assignments in special Passport books by reading the GUARDIAN.

The aim of the scheme is to improve literacy standards and introduce children to reading newspapers. Pictures of children taking part will appear in future editions.
