A YOUNG man who helped hundreds of elderly and disabled people get out and about has been found dead at his home.

Former Army chef Stuart Legge, aged 33, worked as a co-ordinator for Warrington Shopmobility at the Golden Square.

Geoff Berry, full-time co-ordinator with Shopmobility, paid tribute to Stuart's work with the community. He said: "He had only been here 12 months, but he was a valuable and well liked member of the small team.

"Whether it was helping people into the scooters, having a chat and even trying to fix the vehicles when they broke, he would have a go.

"We all feel that we have lost somebody really special."

After leaving the Army in 1987, Stuart, of Liverpool Road, Warrington, worked in catering before deciding to do voluntary work with Dial-a-Ride, where he worked for several years.

Mum Marilyn, of Blackcap Walk, Oakwood, said: "After leaving the funeral service, we were amazed with the number of people who actually came to pay their respects.

"People were flooding out of the crematorium and we didn't realise how many people knew and loved him."

"I have never met a person who didn't like him, and even when he was really low he carried on helping others through his work. It's a great loss and we will all miss him," she said.

Stuart leaves a fiancee and two children from a previous marriage.

An inquest is to be held to determine the cause of his death.
