MIDDLEWICH residents are under the false impression that their campaign for a pool is going swimmingly.

But in fact many other realists know, as I do, that they are out of their depth.

The people of Middlewich have been campaigning for many years now for a new pool and it seems their battle for a leisure complex has risen once again from the murky waters.

But I honestly think they are wasting their time. Congleton Borough Council will never agree to splashing out on a pool for Middlewich.

And anyway what's wrong with Winsford Sports Complex and Sandbach Leisure Centre - perfectly nice pools only a stones throw away?

Another point I wish to raise is that I remember visiting shops in Middlewich a few years ago and every premises in Wheelock Street had little tubs collecting money for the pool campaign.

Whatever happened to the cash? Does it still belong to the project or has it disappeared off the face of the earth? Could anyone answer my question?

Finally I do admire the efforts of Middlewich town councillors fighting for the people and plunging into the pool campaign - but will they sink or swim?

My guess is they are in too deep. The borough will fob them off again like it always has in the past but I hope they prove me wrong and swim through, only time will tell.

Concerned swimmer.
