TEetley Walker 3

Stantondale 1

NINTH placed Tetley Walker, 24 points clear of their re-election threatened visitors, broke their 1998 North West Counties League duck on Saturday, but it was a far from a convincing performance.

Walker were on top in the first half, but had to wait until the 24th minute before taking the lead.

Chris Woodward delivered a corner into the Stantondale six yard box and in the ensuing scramble Steve Hunt forced the ball over the line.

A minute later Rob Preidt added a second with a rasping drive from the edge of the area.

The floodgates looked about to open but Walker did not manage to sow the game up as they failed to convert any of their numerous chances into further goals.

Stantondale slowly clawed their way back into the game and their pressure paid off when they reduced the deficit on 65th minutes.

Martin Wilkinson's attempted clearance was blocked by a Stantondale player and the ball fell to the Liverpool side's centre forward who tapped the ball into the empty net.

Leading scorer and man of the match Kevin Dack settled the home side's nerves in the 80th minute as he raced on to a through ball to fire home his 25th goal of the season and clinch Tetley Walker's first league win of the year.

Team: Wilkinson, Bush, Webster, Roberts, Tandy, Sanson, Dack, Preidt, Woodward, Hunt, Johnson. Subs: Cooper, Maher, Fitzpatrick.

Tetley Walker have two away games in the coming week - at Middlewich Athletic tomorrow, Saturday, kick off 3pm and at Bootle on Tuesday, kick off 7.30pm.
