Lymm RUFC 22

Alnwick 18

LYMM gave their fans some nervous moments before gaining this narrow but important victory.

This was certainly not a classic but lowly Lymm deserved their win for their all round teamwork and effort, and more so in view of the previous week's demoralising defeat at Blaydon.

This win lifts Lymm to fifth from bottom in Thwaites North Two, see league table on Sport 6.

In the first half, Alnwick failed with a number of penalty opportunities but eventually Lymm conceded an unconverted try.

This was quickly cancelled out when John Jenkins completed a score after some good inter passing.

Lymm survived further penalty attempts before taking the lead through a Nick Shaw penalty.

Alnwick replied with a converted try just before half-time, bringing the score to 8-12 as a result of some weak Lymm tackling.

Harrison got Lymm away to a good start in the second half with a try from a well taken opportunity on the blind side. Shortly afterwards Shaw added a drop goal.

Two penalties gave Alnwick the lead for the final time.

Skipper Shaw then coolly saw Lymm safely to victory with two well taken penalties from 35 metres.

Lymm have a two week break from league matches before they travel to the north east to play Morpeth.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Lymm are due to play Widnes followed by a Cheshire cup tie versus Chester the following weekend.
