SURRENDER FINE RECORD

WARRINGTON Rugby Union Club are enjoying a wonderful season but they know improvement has to be made if they wish to progress to the final of the Lancashire Trophy.

The side have had only three defeats in 22 games and the last of these was four months ago but on Sunday they have their most important game to date.

Warrington have their Trophy semi-final against Aspull at Bridge Lane, Appleton, kick-off 2.30pm.

Aspull, from three divisions higher than Warrington, play a fast, open and attacking game and prop forward Terry Blohm is aware that of late some of Warrington's performances have been lacklustre.

He says: "Although we keep on winning we have been very disappointed with the displays we have put in.

"We have been too careless in possession allowing the opposition to turn over a lot of our ball and on Sunday Aspull will run away with the game if we let them do it.

"I played in the last home defeat we suffered back in November of 1996 and there is no way we will surrender that record to a team like Aspull. They are a good and combative outfit but if we play to our potential we will book a spot in the final."

Warrington will go into the game in confident manner having disposed of more senior opposition - West Park and Blackburn - in earlier rounds but they know that they have failed to beat Aspull in their last eight meetings and it is January 1991 since they last beat them.

Coach Kevin Greaves' 21 man squad includes teenagers Alan Marsh and Andy Higginson but injury is likely to keep Andy Bennett out of the side.

A large crowd is expected with a pre-match buffet luncheon at 1pm and a special appearance by 'Gator-Man,' Warrington's new official club mascot! Admission is £2 for adults and 50p for children.
