A SNOOKER legend will breeze into town next Friday to help raise thousands of pounds for two good causes in Warrington.

The 'Whirlwind' Jimmy White will take part in an annual charity tournament. Players can bid against one another to play a frame against the snooker legend or bet on how many points will be scored.

The event, organised by businessman Peter Hember, is celebrating a decade of fund-raising which has seen more than £75,000 collected for good causes in the town.

Money will be divided between Lymm's Cotebrook Home, which cares for physically challenged adults, and DEBRA, which supports sufferers of the skin blistering condition Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa.

Lymm teenager Samantha Hall, featured in the GUARDIAN last week for winning a Child of Achievement Award, is one of the people who could benefit from the cash given to DEBRA.

Mum Fran said: "The event raised money for the same charities last year, and if they can better the response this time then it will mean an awful lot to both groups.

"I hope that people saw the GUARDIAN article and will be prepared to help a worthy cause."

Joint organiser Elaine Williams said: "Last year we managed to raise £10,000 and we hope that the figure could be bettered this time.

"Jimmy will certainly draw attention to the night and every single penny pledged goes to the two charities."

The matches are held at Peter's own mini-Crucible, a games room at his house in Woodlands Drive, Thelwall.

Tickets for the event cost £80, which includes an evening of entertainment from Jimmy, world-famous referee Len Ganley as well as a slap-up supper and drinks.
