FORMER professional football coach Barry Bennell appeared at Mold Crown Court last Friday. He pleaded not guilty to a large number of sex charges against a number of young boys.
Bennell (44) of no fixed abode but who previously lived in Crewe faces charges of indecent assault, buggery and attempted buggery dating back to the 1970s and 1980s through to 1992.
They involve allegations against children aged between nine and 15.
It is alleged that the offences took place in the Derbyshire area, the Crewe area and at Butlin's in Pwllheli, North Wales.
Mr Justice Sachs remanded Bennell in custody pending his trial which is listed to start on June 1 at Chester Crown Court. It is expected to last six weeks.
A defence application to adjourn the trial until later in July in order to fit in with the work of professional footballers who would be called as defence witnesses, was rejected.
