DALTON Steele wants a new striker to complete his summer transfer dealings.

The Winsford United manager will be adding Hyde United midfielder Colin Lambert to his squad this week following the capture of centre-half Leroy Dove, midfielder Greg Chandler and former Witton left-back Darren Heesom.

These signings ensure Steele has met his target of four experienced players to add to last year's squad.

He said: "We need competition for places as last year I had three midfielders out at the same time.

"We have 18 good players now but I still need a striker.

"I'd be looking for somebody like Winnie Steele, quick and skilful.

"We've had lads who have been at Football League clubs here and we haven't signed them, so we're still searching."

Despite his quest for a frontman, the Blues boss stresses that he is not concerned about the lack of goals in their pre-season friendlies, the latest being a 1-0 home defeat to Conference side Morecambe on Saturday.

He said: "These games are all about fitness, not results. We looked sharper and our games have gone all right. I'm happy.

"Once we play against teams on our own level I'm sure Steele, Peel, Shaughnessy, and the other players will get the goals - it's not a problem.

"At the moment all I want to do is get people match-fit."

On Saturday, trialist Anthony Emananjo was given the chance to impress and could, along with recent recruits Philip Nze and Nathaniel Barnes, be a young player whose game Steele would like to develop at United.

The Blues boss returns to his old club Flixton on Saturday for the next friendly. United's first UniBond Premier Division game is at Gainsborough Trinity a week later.
