Billy Meredith was one of 100 players named in the list selected by the Football League to mark its hundredth season.
Meredith was named ahead of modern-day greats who didn't make the list like Michael Owen, Sol Campbell and Paul Ince.
He signed for Vics in 1893, when they were in the Football League Second Division, before going on to play for Manchester United and Manchester City.
Known as the Welsh Wizard, Meredith's career spanned three decades and he became the oldest player to have played in an international at the age of 45.
A plaque in his memory was unveiled at The Drill Field by his 91-year-old daughter, Winifrede, earlier this year.
Now he stands alongside the likes of Alan Shearer, George Best, Nat Lofthouse and Tommy Lawton as, officially, an all-time great.
