TETLEY Walker Football Club succeeded where Manchester United failed during the close season - by reinforcing their strike force.

Ambitious manager Chris Coulson has drafted in four news faces as steels his squad to push for promotion.

Coulson has also persuaded Simon Pickett, the speedy 22-year-old who made a big impression at the end of last season, to stay on at the club.

Last year Tetley finished in the top half of Division Two of the North West Counties League - now the North Western Trains League - but impressed late on as they won the Second Division Cup.

Coulson said: "With a little bit more discipline and desire then I don't see why this side shouldn't be pushing for promotion. The vital ingredient is attitude and we'll just have to see if they can show the necessary hunger."

The two new strikers joining the club are Darren Clear and John Turner, both from Warrington League sides.

Midfielder Justin Farrelly has also come from the Warrington League and has made a big impression by scoring four times in pre-season friendlies.

Goalkeeper Mark Lilliston has joined up from Droylsden and replaces the departing Lee Medland.

Coulson is particularly looking forward to facing Town for the first time after he spent a long period playing for the club in its heyday.

He said: "It's very sad what has happened to Town over the last few years but from a selfish point of view it's going they are going to be great games when we play them."

Tetley kick-off their season at home against newly relegated Darwen tomorrow, Saturday, from 3pm. They also travel to Ashton Town on Tuesday, kick-off 6.30pm.
