MIKE Pechey sang the praises of winger Mark Forster after making a try-scoring home debut against St Helens.

The Australian put on an impressive display when he filled in for Toa Kohe-Love at centre, though he tired towards the end.

He put his success in fitting into the team so quickly down to the advice of Foz and playing alongside his long-standing friend, Steve McCurrie, who was previously a team-mate at Widnes and Bedford.

He said: "Foz was absolutely outstanding out there. He talked to me all the way through the game so I kept up with everything and put me in for the try as well.

"He passed to me for the Steve McCurrie try as well and had a great game.

"Playing alongside Steve helped a lot as well. We've played in the same side twice before so he knows my game very well and I know his.

"It was god to get on the scoresheet again. I've had 18 months in Union at Bedford so I've got to get my fitness up to scratch. It's going to take playing week to week to really sort that out."

Despite the blow of 48-18 defeat, Pechey is excited about the prospects at Warrington.

He said: "I've got a lot of time for Darryl Van de Velde. I think he's one of the best coaches in the game. He puts so much into his job and it's very disappointing for him when a game turns out like this.

"If I can keep producing the goods while I'm here then hopefully I can earn myself a contract for the next year. Darryl has put a lot of changes into place while he's been here and I'd like to be around when he starts to reap the benefits."
