GENEROUS auction goers have paved the way for the holiday of a lifetime for young cancer sufferer Laura Thorley.
Laura, aged seven, from Alsager, started chemotherapy treatment in June after being diagnosed with leukaemia.
She takes up to 12 tablets a day as part of the treatment, and is due to undergo her second period of intensive chemotherapy next month.
Her brave battle captured the hearts of Alsager residents and friends of the family, who raised £2,703 at an auction at the Linley Tavern in Alsager.
The money is being used to buy a Playstation and computer games for the children's ward at the North Staffordshire Hospital, where Laura is being treated.
It will also help pay for a holiday to Disneyland in Florida for Laura, her sister Jessica, and mum and dad Sharon and Christopher.
The auction night total was boosted by cheques for £150 from Alsager Rotary Club and £50 from the Linley Tavern.
"I was amazed at the turnout, and there were at least 100 people at the auction,'' said Laura's mum, from Talke Road.
"It was unbelievable, and I did not expect to make £1,000. We hope to go to Disneyland at Christmas 1999 when Laura has finished her treatment.
"Laura came up to receive the Rotary cheque, and it was very emotional.''
