A WIDNES man has been sent to prison for indecently assaulting a nine-year-old girl earlier this year.
Peter Batty, 44, of Kingsway, drove up behind the child as she was cycling her bicycle in St Helens in January this year.
He rolled down his window and told his victim that there was a £1 coin on the ground by her bicycle.
When she got down from the saddle, he indecently assaulted her. She then ran home and Batty was traced and arrested.
He also approached a number of teenage girls that weekend and asked if they were prostitutes.
Batty, who admitted the offences last month, was jailed for 15 months. Judge Ian Crompton also ordered him to register as a sex offender.
He had previously been fined £200 for the indecent behaviour towards the teenage girls.
