A BLAZE caused damage at Fiddlers Ferry power station on Monday afternoon.
A large area of external lagging insulation was set alight by workmen using oxyacetylene torches at the plant shortly before 4pm.
Two engines from Widnes were sent to tackle the blaze along with one from Warrington.
Firefighters needed a ladder to reach the fire, which was 18 metres up. Twenty square metres of insulation was destroyed, with the incident taking up 45 minutes. No-one was injured.
