A COUNCIL waste disposal company is to be sold off to the private sector.
3C Waste is currently owned by Halton, Cheshire and Warrington Councils.
But the partners have decided to sell the company off to private investors.
The move could see private interests gaining from council waste disposal contracts.
Halton Council would then become a customer, rather than a shareholder with a stake in potential profits.
Halton Council refused to be drawn on the reasons for or implications of a sale, or what amount of work 3C currently does in Halton, but assistant chief executive Angela Harwood confirmed that disposal of 3C was on the agenda.
She said: "Negotiations are currently taking place with a preferred bidder. The issue is highly commercially sensitive and an announcement will be made in due course."
