A WAREHOUSE operator from Winsford died from methadone poisoning after experimenting with the drug.

Martin Curzon, aged 21, of Walnut Drive, collapsed on November 5 last year on the way home from bonfire night celebrations at a fairground in Warrington.

The former pupil of Verdin High School died at Leighton Hospital at 12.30am the next day.

An inquest at Crewe on Tuesday heard that he died from cardio-respiratory arrest due to methadone toxicity.

Roy Williams, from Liverpool, told coroner John Hibbert that he was a fairground worker at Warrington and had known Mr Curzon for about three or four years.

He said he had been working on the waltzers ride on November 5 when Mr Curzon came to see him at about 9.10pm and told him he had got some methadone from someone else who worked on another ride.

Mr Williams told the inquest he did not know if Mr Curzon had paid for the methadone or was given it.

He added that he had not known Mr Curzon to take the drug before and that it would have been one of the first occasions he had taken it.

Mr Hibbert recorded a verdict of misadventure and said Mr Curzon had intended to take the methadone but had not intended the fatal result.

He added that Mr Curzon had taken something which he was not used to and did not know his tolerance to, whether he had bought it or been given it.
