Macclesfield 199 all out

Toft 132 for 9

Match drawn.

GRIT and determination saved Toft on Saturday from their second defeat of the season.

It was a game in which Macclesfield had pushed for victory over an off-colour Toft side.

Toft skipper Muirhead had won a good toss to put Macclesfield into bat.

At first Macclesfield prospered to reach 94 for 2 before Bertenshaw and Locke brought Toft back into the game by reducing them to 96 for 6 taking 4 wickets for 2 runs in just 4 overs.

But Macclesfield re-asserted themselves to reach 199 all out off 55 overs.

Toft made a disastrous start, losing Muirhead, Bones and Bhowmick who all failed to score and with only 1 extra on the scoreboard.

Victory then looked distinctly unlikely as the middle order batsmen - ably led by Chris Sheldon - began their rescue operation.

But wickets continued to fall regularly.

At 112 for 9, the real heroes emerged as wicket keeper Colin Meadows and Paul Bertenshaw.

They organised the last-ditch unbroken partnership of 20 with Meadows to save the game.
