A DEVELOPER has won his 18-month battle to open a pizza restaurant in King Street.
A planning inspector has decided that Knutsford company Centrelease should be allowed to redevelop Jane's Coffee Shop for London-based chain Pizza Express.
Town centre residents had been fiercely opposed to the proposals - which will stretch around the back of the developer's neighbouring shops - and councillors had rejected them twice.
But after an appeal by Centrelease the inspector decided there were no noise or nuisance grounds on which to refuse the plan.
"It has to be recognised that the proposal is in a town centre location where hotels, public houses and restaurants are an established part of the centre," he decided.
"I do not not consider that the proposal would add in any significant way to this activity."
The success of the appeal will also mean the end for Jane's Cafe.
