MIKE Wainwright's brace of tries against Halifax put him in no mood to celebrate on Sunday.

The loose forward was left bitterly disapointed by the 46-16 defeat at the New Shay.

He said: "Scoring two tries wasn't much of a consolation really. We came here in a positve frame of mind and training had been good all week but it turned into one of those games where it started badly and got worse.

"We gave away stupid penalties, dropped the ball and missed tackles all afternoon and they made us pay for it.

"When we did make breaks, we didn't finish them off either. There was a lot of yardage from both sides in this game but they took their chances and that was the difference.

"I thought we were a lot better in the second half but that's not much use to us in an 80 minute game. We played well in the first half last week and then let it go in the second so this is just the reverse of that.

"Missing out on the play-offs could be in the back of people's minds but it's not something we've really talked about. There are still plenty of us with contracts to play for and there's the simple question of respectability as well."

Wainwright may not have been happy with the Warrington performance but he also had to admit that Halifax would be a handful for anyone.

He said: "They're strong all over the park and they cause you trouble all the time. It's that kind of strength that puts you up there with Wigan and Leeds. They deserve to be where they are playing like that."
