IT has been one of those weeks for the officials and helpers of Lymm Angling Club.
First of all, aeration equipment had to be, once again, installed at Grimsditch Mill Pool.
Then the news was broken that a serious pollution incident had taken place which affected the club's stretch of Wincham Brook.
Then aeration equipment had to be installed at Village Pool.
This is the third time this year that Grimsditch Pool has suffered a de-oxygenation. Officers of the Environment Agency are conducting tests in an effort to identify the cause of our recurring problem on this water.
Village Pool possesses no mystery, as the cause of the de-oxygenation has been identified as algae dying.
Hopefully, this is a short term problem and the pool will be open by the time you read this article, although it would be wise to find out before setting off to fish there.
The pollution which has affected Wincham Brook was caused by a road tanker fire on the M6, with its chemical contents finding its way to the river system via the drains.
How badly the fishery has been affected is yet to be ascertained, although we have nothing to feel optimistic about as yet.
As you can imagine fishery emergencies have officials and regular helpers running around like scalded cats. If you can help in any way, please get in touch.
On a more positive note, the travellers and the scouts have now left Tabley Estate, and the peace has again been restored.
The scouts were celebrating what they called their chamboree, and while it is always nice to see young people enjoying themselves, it is also nice to have the site to ourselves again.
I must mention that although there were hundreds of scouts at this event, it was well organised and they were all well behaved.
All other waters are fishing well, despite the weather. Best fish reported this week is a carp of 35lbs from Shakerley Mere.
Helen Thompson and Steve McMurray conducted an Introduction to Angling weekend on the Sankey Canal last week. They were ably assisted by some of the junior section and their parents. Basic angling skills were taught with the accent directed towards responsible angling.
The event finished with a fun match on the Sunday, with prizes for all.
On the subject of prizes the club lottery draw took place on Sunday at the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair. A full list of winners will be provided on request and on receipt of a sae.
