STOKE and Trent City Council is to spend £2 million installing lighting and surfacing the city's 13 miles of unmade and unadopted back alleys, over the next five years.
There are several miles of such back alleys in Crewe and Nantwich and it is about time the council took speedier action to tidy them up.
Over the years I have worked with residents of both towns to get improvements and there has been some success eg Ruskin Road. However, as we approach the millennium the unmade back alleys are an example of Victorian times and improvements are long overdue.
