Worthington Cup match report
Crewe Alex 2 Oldham Athletic...0
Crewe win 4-3 on aggregate
GOING into this match having to claw back a 3-2 deficit from the 1st leg the spotlight was always going to be on debutante striker Rodney Jack - he didn't disappoint.
The Alex had to contend with an early onslaught of pressure from the visitors who were obviously under orders to try and kill off Crewe hopes quickly.
After 9 minutes Duxbury raced clear of the attempted offside trap but elected to try and set up Littlejohn and the chance went begging.
After weathering the storm Crewe played themselves back into the match and started to threaten.
A shot from Jermaine Wright forced a save from Kelly but the 'keeper could do nothing about Rodney Jack's goal on 31 minutes.
Peter Smith played the ball through into his path and Jack fired a right foot shot home to bring the aggregate scoreline level.
After the interval it was all Crewe with Seth Johnson going close with a header from a free kick before Jack's dream debut was completed with the winning goal.
It came after Peter Smith's shot was deflected and Jack was on hand to convert the chance.
A frantic finish saw chances at both ends but Crewe held on to go through.
