BRAVING the treacherous sands and murky waters of Morecambe is a thankless task, especially during this miserable summer, but nothing was stopping the plucky Winsford and Middlewich Rotarians recently.
Ken Tomlinson led the party of 15 Rotarians and their wives, under the guidance of the well-known Lakeland character Cedric Robinson, the official Queen's Guide to Morecambe Bay.
The party set off at low tide from Arnside, in Lancashire, to Kents Bank, in Cumbria.
The distance as the crow flies between these two points is about four miles but the nature of the sands and the need to choose shallow crossings, stretched the walk to seven miles.
The outing was organised as a charity walk on behalf of the Hope House Children's Respite Hospice in Oswestry, one of several charities which the Rotary Club regularly supports.
The walk was widely advertised and it is estimated that the total number of walkers exceeded 600.
Ken Tomlinson wishes to thank all the members who walked, the support party, sponsored walkers and the local people whose financial support made the effort worthwhile.
