I DETEST and loathe men who stalk women. It is one of the most horrible offences.
So my stomach turned over when I heard that a stalker who caused mental torment to a pretty dental receptionist was jailed for three years and 10 months - only to be promptly released because he has already spent 27 months on remand in custody.
Goodness knows what the judge must have felt when he had to release the man on licence into the care of the probation service.
And what must be the thoughts of his victim?
The stalker is a convicted rapist who bombarded her with unwanted love letters and unsolicited gifts.
He turned up at the girl's workplace more than 200 times in seven months.
Jack Straw, Home Secretary, has promised to tighten up on the law to give females a bit of peace from these odious pests.
He should do it now!
FELLAS, take heart. We have a new champion!
The distinguished author Fay Weldon reckons that too many women are out for vengeance on men.
She says we are no longer allowed to be men and are driven to frustration by acting anti-socially.
She adds: "Today's young woman does the sexual picking and choosing...men's courage, chivalry and patriotism are all despised in female society."
So just remember that when you next roll home late from the pub and your dinner's dried up in the oven...
I NEVER ceased to be amazed at the BBC.
Two years ago, they did a re-run of Dad's Army, pulling in audiences of more than eight million.
Now they are planning to resurrect Allo Allo featuring characters from the French Resistance on the Saturday tea-time slot.
Wouldn't it be nice if they came up with some brand new situation comedies instead of rehashing all the old stuff in schedules already bursting with repeats?
A FRIEND at Magic 1548 got a call on his mobile phone saying his message service would be switched off.
He rang the phone company only to be asked by a confused operator: "You couldn't ring your message service, find out what's going on, then call us, could you?"
Ah, the joys of modern technology... I'll stick to my pager!
