A WELL needed maximum points win of 32 to keep Widnes Rec Second XI top of the league, a fine all round batting performance by Fluff Freeman (41) and fellow opener Jimmy Ashall (30), got Widnes off to a flyer, then came the new slimline Dave Evans, who hit 74 to all parts of the field including a straight six onto the bowling green.
Tony Poole (23) and P Beddingfield (10) chipped in to finish on 191-6 off 40 overs declared, Grange had a huge task ahead of them and things went worse when Doc Stanley caught a superb ball off Pole in the slips and then Burns bowled Smithy for 0, Grange were 2 for 4, then came in youngster Dave Seed who looks a fine young prospect but the rest of his team just fell around him, he finished on 29 not-out, skipper Woodhouse was caught brilliantly by Derek Hulstrom on the boundary for 0 and Billy Boucher Morris finished Grange off with a fine piece of stumping Grange all-out for 54 for two points next week.
Moorfield come to Widnes Recs which could be a possible title decider.
