BRIAN Harrison ran away with the Micro Milling Trophy at Widnes Golf Club on Saturday, winning the fledgling competition by an emphatic margin of three strokes after carding a nine-under-par score of 60.
Harrison cashed in on his generous handicap of 25 to full effect and left Keith Musgrave an unlucky runner-up after what would normally have been a triumphant score of 74-11=64.
John Ratcliffe, playing off 14, was two shots further adrift after a gross score of 79.
The lowest gross award is rapidly becoming the exclusive property of Mark Fraser.
The long-hitting youngster again played to his handicap of four by going round in 73 shots.
The August Medal the following the day was badly hit by the weather and after an initial suspension of play because of waterlogging the competition was abandoned to be rearranged.
Widnes juniors went to Helsby for the final leg of their triangular tournament with a five point advantage but were a distant third on the day behind the host club's 410.
Runcorn, who amassed 422 from their best scoring players, snatched the trophy after the Widnes team could manage only 434.
