Blackpool Stanley 14
Widnes Albion Bulls 26
THE Albion completed their pre-season games with a good win against a solid-looking Blackpool side.
Both teams took time to settle but the Albion looked the more likely to score and finally it came with Tony Mahar racing 50 yards, converting himself, and adding two drop goals for an 8-0 lead. A late try to Blackpool cut the lead to 4-8 for the visitors.
The second-half saw the Albion score converted tries by Chris Bibby and Paul Davies in reply to one by Blackpoo. However, the Albion could never pull away and Blackpool landed a converted try to reduce the arrears to 20-14.
A late try to Darren Yates sealed the game with Maher landing the extras.
The Albion now prepare for their away game at Hindley, while the A team make their North West Counties debut against Heysham Atoms at home on St Peter & Paul school field, kick-off 2.30pm.
