AN all-round wonder show from 17-year-old Ben Large was the main feature of hard earned win for Alvanley as they entertained Tattenhall on Saturday.
Three key wickets and a rumbustious 31 not-out were his reward as he further enhanced his growing reputation.
Alvanley won the toss and inserted Tattenhall on an excellent fast bouncy wicket. 21-0 in the third over became 29-1 in the sixth as Phil Jones removed the dangerous Hope.
Harper soon followed to a big Jones break-back and when Large bounced Salt out in the 11th over Tattenhall were in trouble.
Only Murray (25) and Carruthers (49) showed any resistance as Jones, who finished with 3-30 and Large (3-37) continued their onslaught.
Carruthers was a fine knock and in getting Tattenhall in 135-9, he at least gave them a chance.
Alvanley's reply stuttered at first with Cook departing for 0. Andy Bennion stood firm with 26 as he and Adam Carolan took the score to 53. Carolan departed for a whirlwind 23 and before the total had reached 69, three further wickets fell. Good bowling and catching was complemented by some injudicious shot selections and at 97-8.
Alvanley looked down and out. Ian Charles steadied the ship, driving and pulling with style. His 29 not-out was invaluable. Ben Large then arrived arrived at the crease batting at No10 and made batting look easy.
His 31 not-out only took 39 balls and his cover drive was to be the winning blow as he eased the home side home with four ball to spare.Dave Sutton was Tattenhall's bowling hero. He shared 2-29 of 19.5 overs.
The win put Alvanley 15 points clear in second place, just 25 points behind Oulton Park.
This Saturday Alvanley travel to Congleton. Nick Ingram replaces Russ Cook.
The Second XI lost at Tattenhall. Alvanley posted 127-7, Reg Haslem 57, King 19, Rick Lomax 18.
