RESIDENTS in Crewe are calling for speed restrictions and cameras to be brought in on a busy road in the West End.
People living on Coppenhall Lane in Crewe are concerned that the speed limit on the road is too high.
The limit used to be 30 miles an hour but was changed to 40 and residents want to see it dropped back again.
One resident Gordon Harris contacted ward councillor Roy Cartlidge who has since started up a petition.
The petition was launched last week and within just a few days they had 55 names from around the area to be presented to members of the Joint Highways Committee.
"The residents are up in arms about this," said councillor Cartlidge. "Gordon Harris came to one of my surgeries and was very concerned about it and I have to agree."
"The main problem is the speed, but the trouble is if the speed is lowered it will need enforcing and the residents would like to see speed cameras brought in.
"There have been one or two incidents, a cat was run over and injured and a lady has been knocked down along the road.
"It can take about 20 minutes to cross the road and most people say they have got to know the times when people speed. You take your life in your hands when you cross the road. It's just a matter of time before an accident happens, it's crucial now."
