ANOTHER First Division Championship trophy will be on display in the clubhouse at Lane Tennis Club to accompany the four others to be presented to the club at the League Dinner in October.

Last Thursday evening in rapidly failing light, the First Division of the Warrington and District LTA mixed leagues was finally settled when Lane out-gunned Stockton Heath TC 7-5.

Trailing 2-4 at the halfway stage for Lane TC to win the match, some outstanding tennis had to be played against a very talented Stockton Heath team.

Neil Barber and Janice Lester started the recovery by taking the first set 6-3 off Stockton Heath first couple of Alison Lewis and John Carroll, who had previously beaten Lane first pair Nick Walls and Dawn Lawton 6-1, 6-0.

The second set was lost 2-6 but in the meanwhile Alison Redman and Harry Cummins got going and won their second match 6-2, 6-4 and Nick and Dawn won their first set 7-5, leaving the match with one set to play at 6-5 in favour of Lane TC.

A drawn tie would not be good enough for Lane TC to win the title as Stockton Heath had a better sets score on countback of all matches played.

Nick and Dawn delivered and won their last set 6-2 to give Lane TC a 7-5 win.

This victory makes in total for the season five divisional championships - Ladies Division One, Ladies Division Three, Men's Division Three, Men's Division Six, Mixed Division One and the Men's First Team were second in Division One.

This has been a fantastic season for the members of Lane Tennis Club and all those involved.

An Open One-Day Tournament is to be held on Saturday, September 12 - players should just turn up on the day at the start time to be advertised in this paper next week.
