Merseyside Police 2
Mond Rangers 3
A LATE winner gave Mond all three points as a draw looked likely at Fairfield on Saturday.
Karl Thomas showed his pedigree with a hat-trick, that he could easily have doubled, but for some fine goalkeeping by the home keeper.
Mond took the lead in the 20th minute, a long free-kick by Billington, found Crane on the back post.
He headed across goal for Thomas to score on his second attempt as the keeper half blocked his first effort.
Mond conceded a penalty in the 25th minute when Daly pushed an opponent, Brooks shooting home from the spot.
A fine cross by Bennett found Brooks on the back post to lead the Police in front in the 29th minute.
Thomas equalised in the 37th minute when he intercepted a short goal-kick, rounded the keeper and fired home from the narrowest of angles.
Half-time 2-2.
The second half proved fairly even with both keepers being brought into the action on a regular basis.
Rooke and the Mond goal dealing with mainly long-range efforts while at the other end the Police keeper thwarted Thomas and Smith on many occasions.
It took a piece of brilliant individual skill by Wood to unlock the Police defence and send Thomas in on the keeper, this time the Mond centre-forward chose to round the keeper then slide the ball into the open net.
MOM, Karl Thomas.

Manor Athletic 4
A TEAM depleted due to first team calls had a point snatched from them with a late winner from veteran forward Brian Smith.
Mond started brightly with Stuart Hide, made captain for the day on his 19th birthday, in inspirational form.
The birthday boy opened the scoring for Mond but three goals from the visitors made it an uphill climb.
Mond responded, Richard Flaherty forcing Manor defender, Blaim, to concede an own goal.
A foul on Hide resulted in a penalty which was duly hammered home by the same player.
Smith got the winner but the lively Hide struck the crossbar on two occasions before the final whistle.
MOM, Stuart Hide.
Mond Rangers Bonanza was won by No57, Pavilions FC chairman, Mike Hassall drawn by Claire Carins.
