CLERGYMEN in Winsford and Middlewich paid tribute to Princess Diana during Church of England services on Sunday.
The first anniversary of her death was marked with prayers and thanksgivings at Winsford churches St Chad's, St John's and Christ Church Wharton as well as St Michael's in Middlewich.
Rev Peter Forster, the Bishop of Chester, said that it had been a long tradition in the Christian Church and the Diocese of Chester, which includes Winsford and Middlewich, to commemorate the first anniversary of a death in a low-key way.
He said: "Churches remembered Diana in prayers on Sunday and it was also an opportunity for people to remember the death of a friend or relative.
"I emphasised that I thought emphasis should be on quiet reflection.
"Many churches throughout the diocese were open during the daylight hours to allow those who wished to visit, to pray quietly or to leave tributes."
