BANK Holiday Monday went with a bang in Burtonwood as hundreds of people turned out to welcome back the village's carnival.
The event was scrapped a decade ago but has been now been revived and organisers hope it will go from strength to strength.
For once, the holiday weather was kind to all those who gathered to watch the procession of colourful floats on a balmy August afternoon.
Line dancers mixed with vampires and ghosts while would-be builders wolf-whistled at a mobile toy box as the floats headed towards the carnival field at the Clay Lane pavilion.
Burtonwood borough councillor Terry O'Neill aims to build on this year's celebrations.
He said: "It has been a decade since the last carnival and we want to make it an annual event in the village.
"It has been a good turn-out for the revival and next year we aim to make it bigger and better," he said.
Organisers also threw a 'thank you' bash on Tuesday night to reward villagers who helped tidy the streets after the event.
Young and old were given special certificates at a party at the village's community centre.
