THE past week's rain has improved the river fishing for members of Warrington Anglers' Association.

Most rivers are carrying some extra water and a flush of colour.

Loton Park on the River Severn has produced a barbel of 11lbs taken on legered meat.

On our stretch at Bicton the farmer is using an electric fence system across our access road. To pass simply unhook the wire using the rubber grip. If you fancy some barbel fishing this venue is definitely worth a visit as it has in the past produced fish up to 12lbs with plenty of decent sized singles.

Closer to home the river Dee does hold some barbel but it is better known for chub, dace, and grayling. Also you stand a fair chance of hooking some of the escape carp that are now resident on our stretch at Townfield Lane.

Grey Mist Mere produced a cracking carp on Saturday for Michael Lythgoe on his first ever night fishing session.

Tutored by committee member Ian Clutterbuck he experienced the sheer power of these fish when he played and landed a mirror of 20lbs 8ozs.

While the carp do not seem to be feeding at Rixton Claypits the same does not apply to the massive resident tench population which continue to give good sport. Joe Baker managed 12 fish to 3lbs in an early morning session on Monday. All taken on pole and caster.

The Trent and Mersey Canal has started to improve with skimmers, roach and perch nets to 10lbs. Hemp is worth a try for quality roach.

Ackers Pit is still giving lots of pleasure to our younger members with a guarantee of catching fish on every visit. Mainly roach with odd tench and carp.

HQ Parker Street is open as usual tonight, Friday for new members, subscriptions, or just drop in for a chat about fishing. I can be contacted with your queries or catch reports on 01928 716238, or fax 01928 713898.
