Formby 4

Tetley Walker 1

TETLEY Walkers poor start to the new season continued on Saturday when they crashed to an embarrassing defeat at Formby.

Walker's first half performance was completely disjointed as they played as 11 individuals instead of a team and it was no surprise when the home side hit the front in the 34th minute.

Formby's impressive central defender Robert Wraith rose above the Walker's defence to head past stand-in 'keeper Gary Swann.

Walker got their act together at the start of the second half and were unfortunate not to level the score with both Stuart Clay and Steve Hunt going close.

But Formby increased their lead just after the hour when Mick Bourne broke through the offside trap to score.

From then on Walker's performance degenerated into a comedy of errors and the home side took advantage to score twice in a 10 minute spell to clinch the victory.

Substitute Ian Street lost possession on the edge of his own area which allowed Leon Hymas to score and Tony Miller added the fourth when he latched onto a clearance from a Walker corner to race away and fire in off a post.

With only pride left to play for, Walker grabbed a consolation goal when Justin Farrelly, one of the few to emerge from the game with any credit, broke from midfield and sent a powerful shot past the Formby 'keeper.

Team: Swann, Roberts, Sanson, Hunt, Tandy, Smith, Farrally, Preidt, Clay, Turner, Healey, Maher, Street.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Walkers entertain Castleton Gabriels at Long Lane, 3pm, and on Tuesday visit Darwen, kick-off 7.30pm.

Walker S & S beat Broadheath Central 4-3 thanks to Bobby Fitzpatrtick scoring a hat-trick. They visit Littlemoor tomorrow, Saturday.
