Abbey Hey 3

TETLEY Walker were outclassed by the early season pacesetters in North Western Trains League Division Two on Tuesday.

Abbey made it four wins from four and left Tetley still looking for their first home win of the new term.

Tetley were caught up in a first half Abbey whirlwind and rarely got a look in although striker John Turner headed one golden chance straight at the goalkeeper and fellow front man Stuart Clay nodded another over the bar.

At the other end, Abbey could easily have scored five with a bit of luck. Sean Pickering, the outstanding performer on the field, had a power drive well saved by stand in goalkeeper James Drewery and he was inches wide with another after meeting one-on-one with Drewery. Pickering also had a penalty claim turned down.

Tetley also have to thank impressive defender John Sanson for saving them twice with goal line clearances in the first half.

Tetley were more composed in the second half and controlled possession better than in the opening period but they failed to create a clear goal scoring opportunity.

Abbey were gifted their opening goal when midfielder Robbie Preidt gave the ball away and Cameron Hunt raced 20 yards to finish off with a low drive.

Town pressed forward to find an equaliser but they were caught out twice in the final moments when Pickering and then Barrie Walker completed the win.

Tetley: Drewery, Sanson, Webster, Roberts, Tandy, Adawee, Farrelly, Preidt, Clay, Turner, Healey. Subs: Claer, Woodward, Street.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Tetley travel to Formby, kick-off 3pm.
