WARRINGTON drag racers gained a stunning clean sweep in the ultimate test of street-legal cars at Santa Pod at the weekend.
DP Motorsports Racing Club members took the Northampton mile strip by storm, finishing first, second and third on their drag debuts.
Club organiser Dave Perry was first in his Mark I Escort, which cradles a Cosworth engine and carries almost 400 horse power. He clocked 12.68 seconds and achieved the equivalent of 0 to 100mph in 8.5secs.
Two brothers took second and third spot. Phil Seddon was timed at 12.83secs in his 350hp 4x4 Sierra Sapphire Cosworth.
Clive Seddon followed in his Renault 5 GT Turbo with 13.4secs.
The club, based off Slutchers Lane, exceeded their own expectations.
Perry, a former Porsche circuit racing driver, said: "It was better than we expected to say the least and we're all on a big high at the moment.
"A lot of tuners from all over the country were there. For us to wipe the floor with them has come as a bit of a shock to their system."
Five hundred cars competed before an audience of 5,000 race fans. The DP club are already looking forward to defending their title next year.
